George Matsuoka
George Hideaki Matsuoka, 85, of Captain Cook, died Dec. 30, 2019, at Maunalani Nursing and Rehab in Honolulu. Born in Kainaliu on the Big Island, he served in the US Army for two years and retired from the Fire Department after 28 years.
George is survived by his wife, Shirley (Onizuka) Matsuoka of Kona, daughter, Cheryl (Matsuoka) Marshall of Marietta, Ga., son, Deron (Carol) Matsuoka of Honolulu; sister, Tsumako (James) Hatami of Hilo; four grandchildren.
Friends may call 3-4 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Kona Hongwanji Mission in Kealakekua for a 4 p.m. service.

Alfred Tavares, III
Alfred Tavares, III, 80, of Hilo, died Jan. 1, 2020, at home. Born Hawaii, he was a heavy equipment operator for Yamada and Sons, part of the Hilo Trollers Club, Kaumana Kumiai, ILWU, and St. Joseph Church.

Alfred is survived by wife, Annabel Tavares of Hilo; sons, Gary (Laurie) Tavares of Hilo, Leroy (Malia) Tavares of Portland, Ore., Greg (Monica) Tavares of Hilo; daughters, Donna (Abraham) Medeiros of Papaikou, Juliann (Michael) Figueroa of Pepeekeo; sister, Patricia Ongais of Keaau; one sister-in-law; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Lillian Kailipaka
Lillian Nathaniel Kailipaka, 86, of Hilo, died Jan. 5, 2020, at Legacy of Hilo. Born April 14, 1933, in Hilo, she was a retired bookkeeper for Central Supply, Inc. and also was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Jan. 14 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. celebration of Mass. Casual/aloha attire, flowers are welcomed. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park (Section 5).
She is survived by daughters, Charmaine (Virgil) Day of Maui and Tammy Ann Ryan of Kailua-Kona; sister, Grace Rapoza of Hilo; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sylvia Ravaglia
Mrs. Sylvia Elizabeth Ravaglia, 42, of Waimea, died Jan. 1, 2020. Born May 29, 1977, in Pullman, Wash., she was a writer, artist, equestrian, and an athlete who competed in Ironman and Ultraman races.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 12, 2020 at Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Kennedy Square located on the upper campus. An optional run/walk and reception will follow on campus. Please dress comfortably. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Mrs. Ravaglia’s memory can be made to the Sylvia &Tiffany Ravaglia Aloha Fund on GoFundMe or Hawaii Preparatory Academy, c/o Advancement Office at 65-1692 Kohala Mtn. John Nind, IV
John Newton Nind, IV, 81, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 1, 2020, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Dec. 14, 1938, in Hackensack City, N.J., he was an insurance agent.
No services will be held.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Nind of Kailua-Kona; sons, John R. Mind of California and Darryl (Karen) Nind of Simi Valley, Calif.; daughter, Kimberley (Michael) Akerson of California.
