Democrats push impeachment to next phase with Dec. 4 hearing

WASHINGTON — The House Judiciary Committee is set to take over the impeachment probe of President Donald Trump, Democrats announced Tuesday, scheduling a hearing for next week as they push closer to a possible vote on actual charges of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Hong Kong tunnel reopens, campus siege nears end

HONG KONG — A major tunnel in Hong Kong reopened on Wednesday as a weeklong police siege of a nearby university appeared to be winding down, closing one of the more violent chapters in the city’s anti-government protests.

Highway 132 ready to reopen

HILO — The County of Hawaii Department of Public Works announced the reopening of Highway 132 in Pahoa will be noon Wednesday.

15 arrested for DUI

During the week of Nov. 18-24, Hawaii Island Police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.

Wanted inmate still sought

Hawaii Island Police are renewing their request for the public’s assistance in locating a 34-year-old Hilo man who allegedly escaped from the Hale Nani correctional facility in October.

Honokaa man given 10 years for abuse

HILO — A 37-year-old Honokaa man was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison for a bizarre and prolonged domestic abuse incident more than two years ago.

Another Alii development proposal scrapped

KAILUA-KONA — The owner and developer of a 50-unit residential community proposed across from Pahoehoe Beach Park on Alii Drive has withdrawn their application for a Special Management Area Use Permit — meaning the lot will likely be preserved for open space.
