Art-After-Dark at First Friday in Holualoa tonight
Holualoa Village galleries will celebrate new art and artists, delicious street food and music all along Mamalahoa Highway with the December edition of their monthly Art-After-Dark event 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight.
The village street party features art and artists in over a dozen galleries and shops, as well as live music and a great selection of local food vendors. This community event is free, and for all ages.
Glyph Art Gallery will be featuring new original paintings for the holidays by a number of artists, including Carol Tredway, Diane Tunnell and Ilze Sims. Out front, look for a large display of Don Slocum metal print photographs and the return of Gabriele’s Italian Eatery, featuring authentic Neopolitan food.
Holualoa Gallery owners/artists will be present to meet and greet. Featured artist, Mark Martell will be painting inside and talented John-E Collins will be cranking out fun classic rock live in front of the gallery.
Barbara Hanson Gallery will be showcasing her new line of gifts, including custom slipper designs that are totally unique. Barbara’s special guest will be Tani, with a huge selection of hand picked protea from her Big Island farm.
Look for new jewelry featuring the blue birthstones of December, blue topaz, lapis lazuli or turquoise at Pat Pearlman Designs in the historic pink Kona Hotel.
Event regulars the Mauna High Notes will be performing on the lanai of Holualoa Ukelele Gallery. Also catch the always ripping’ Dave Lawrence at Koa Realty, along with other special guests.
Kona Potters Guild hosts holiday celebration, sale
Kona Potters Guild will be presenting our 26th annual celebration and sale featuring stoneware, porcelain, raku pottery and sculpture perfect to delight the eye and offer unique holiday gift ideas.
The event runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Honaunau between mile maskers 105 and 106 on Mamalahoa Highway. Enjoy work all locally made on Island by dedicated and creative artists.

PDT Winter Recital Sunday
Prince Dance Theatre presents its first-ever Winter Recital at noon Sunday at Kahilu Theatre.
The hour-long performance features students from Prince Dance Institute (PDI) and will be a fun-filled, romp through dance, music, circus arts, and more. The recital is directed by Prince Dance Theatre and Institute Artistic Director, Angel Prince.
The Winter Recital will showcase beginner and intermediate students from Prince Dance Institute’s Hip Hop, Contemporary Dance, Trapeze, Aerial Silks, Glee, and Musical Theatre classes. There will also be guest performances from the PDI Performance Troupe, the Adult Hip Hop crew, and the Prince Dance Institute Instructors.
“Seeing our youngest students on stage, sharing their art with the audience is such an inspirational and uplifting way to spend an afternoon,” Prince said. “It will be such a thrill for some of these first-time performers to participate in their first professional stage production with costumes and lighting, alongside some of our most seasoned performers. This will be a show where memories are made, and we hope the community will join us in supporting our thriving performance art community.”

Waimea Community Chorus concerts next week
Under the direction of Barbara Kopra, the Waimea Community Chorus ushers in the holiday at the Kahilu Theatre with a variety of songs of the season.
Songs for the Holiday premiers 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and returns 2 p.m. Dec. 14, featuring “An Appalachian Winter,” and two Hebrew pieces, Avinu Malkenu and Al Hanissim, as well as several popular holiday songs with an audience sing-a-long.
Chamber Orchestra of Kona presents pair of holiday concerts
Join the Chamber Orchestra of Kona in a celebration of this festive season with more than an hour of orchestral music at Privateer’s Cove, 75-170 Hualalai Road in Kailua-Kona.
The 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 15 concerts will feature holiday favorites including “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson, Silent Night featuring Michael Cripps, the chamber orchestra’s principal cellist, as well as “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24,” a rendition of the Ukranian Bell Carol as performed by the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

West Hawaii County Band holiday concert Dec. 13
The West Hawaii County Band will present an hour of festive music for the season starting at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at Hale Halawai County Park. Come enjoy standards like Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride,” “White Christmas,” and “Mele Kalikimaka” as well as stirring medleys including “A Canadian Brass Christmas.”
