Mitsuko Tomono
Mitsuko Tomono, 89, of Volcano died Nov. 1, 2019, at a private care home in Keaau. Born in Hilo, she was a retired waitress at the Volcano House Restaurant, member of the Kurtistown Jodo Mission and participated in senior activities at the Cooper Center in Volcano.
Private services held. Family request no flowers and no koden.
She is survived by sons, Byron (Lynn) Tomono of Hilo, Chester (Susan) Tomono of Hilo; daughters, Nancy (Jesus) Sanchez of El Paso, Texas, Sandra (DeDwayne) Malachi of Oahu, Sherri Ann (Darryl) Powell of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers, Tsutomu Kawamoto of Hilo, Raymond (Diane) Kawamoto of Hilo; sister, Masako Shimasaki of Hilo; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Samuel Mahi, Sr
Samuel Kamaki Pinehaka Mahi, Sr., 74, of Hilo, died Nov. 13, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born on June 21, 1945, in Honolulu, he was a retired staff sergeant and mechanic for the Hawaii Army National Guard, a retired school bus driver trainer for Roberts Hawaii, a former bus driver.
Visitation will be held from 8-10 a.m. Nov. 30 at the Hilo Stake Center, 1373 Kilauea Ave. Funeral Service is at 10:30 a.m.; burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Aloha attire. He is survived by wife, Josephine “Sweetheart” Mahi of Hilo; sons, Samuel “Kamaki” Mahi, Jr. of Hilo and Keola Mahi of Hilo; daughter, Mikihala Mahi of Hilo; brothers, Darnell Mahi of Hilo and Davey Mahi of Hilo; sisters, Maydean Bowman of Kohala and Ilima Mahi of North Dakota; brother-in-law; one granddaughter, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Chevry-Taylor Kalai
Chevry-Taylor Kawaiho’onani Okalani Kalai, 26, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 29 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 20, 1992, in Hilo, she was a homemaker, cook and baker.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
She is survived by children, Chasten Kalai-Ahonima, Chancen Kalai-Ahonima, Azayliah Kalai-Ahonima, Chaizen Kalai-Ahonima, Airiebell Kalai-Ahonima all of Kailua-Kona; parents, Renny Aaron Kalai of Honolulu, Christina (Joseph) Watts of Hilo; siblings; boyfriend; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Wesley “Bear” Yogi, 58, of Hilo, died Oct. 8, 2019, at home. He was born Sept. 15, 1961, in Hilo.

Dorothy “Sachi” Sachiko Hirowatari, 84, of Ninole, died Nov. 2, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 24, 1935, in Waikamalo, she was the retired owner and realtor for Maile Realty and a member of Hakalau Jodo Mission.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Nov. 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.
She is survived by husband, George “Masa” Hirowatari of Ninole; sons, George (Suzana) Hirowatari Jr. of Ninole, Glenn Hirowatari of Kona; daughters, Ann (John) Sakamaki of Hilo, Jill (Ronny) Sugiyama of Kona; sisters, Clara Norman of San Francisco, Vivian Aoki of Honolulu, Elsa Yoshioka of Hilo; sisters-in-law, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

John “Johnny Boy” Iowane Ahuna, III, 65, of Paauilo, died Nov. 1, 2019, at his residence. Born in Honokaa, he was a retired crane operator for the former Hamakua Sugar Company, employed at Waipio Valley Taro Products, member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Pilau Motorcycle Club.
Friends may call 8-9:45 a.m. Nov. 30 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Memorial Mass is at 10 a.m. Casual attire.

Arnold Colgrove
Arnold “Arnie” Clyde Colgrove, 90, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 23, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 17, 1929, in Minneapolis, he was a retired accounting manager for Northern State Power and a U.S. Army veteran.
Services with military honors will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 29, 2019 at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire.
He is survived by his sons, Christopher (Ying Huang) Colgrove of Captain Cook, Anthony (Khanittha Gault) Colgrove of Kailua-Kona; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

William Paul Jarett Haalilio Reeves, Sr., 82 of Hilo died Oct. 11, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired fire fighter for the City and County of Honolulu.

Rhona Elizabeth Leinaala Reeves, 80, of Hilo died May 24, 2019, at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired cashier at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and a private care home operator.

Denise Marie Maiden, 67, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 12, 2019, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Nov. 24, 1951, in Los Angeles, she was the owner of a housekeeping service called Sparkle.
