One person is dead following a head-on collision this morning in Honokaa, the Hawaii Fire Department said.
Crews were called shortly before 6 a.m. to Highway 19 near mire marker 46 where they came upon the scene of apparent head on collision with extensive damage to both vehicles with one person dead upon arrival. Another occupant was listed in serious condition.
The scene turned over to Hawaii Police Department for investigation.
Both lanes reopened on Route 19 near the 46-47 MM by noon.
