KAILUA-KONA — A 30-year-old Mountain View man is facing a host of charges following a disturbance at Sunday afternoon at Hilo International Airport that began when the man’s luggage didn’t arrive.
Hawaii Island police were called to a disturbance at the airport at about 3 p.m. involving an “irate” man, the Hawaii Police Department said in a press release Thursday. Officers learned that Dean Padamada was upset after landing at the airport and discovering that his luggage never arrived.
According to reports, Padamada began to throw pamphlets and create a disturbance over the luggage issue, according to police. When asked to “settle down” by airport staff, Padamada allegedly became verbally threatening to airport employees.
When HPD officers arrived, Padamada continued to behave violently and he was arrested. However, during the arrest, an officer was knocked to the ground and sustained an injury to the knee. Another officer injured their hand before police deployed a taser and were able to arrest Padamada.
Padamada was charged with two counts each of terroristic threatening and assault on a police officer and one count each disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to police. Bail was set at $5,750 pending an initial court appearance.
