KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police continue to issue citations and make arrests amid enhanced traffic enforcement efforts on Daniel K. Inouye Highway near Maunakea Access Road and the Thirty Meter Telescope protest.
Since Aug. 15, the Hawaii Police Department has issued 6,585 citations and arrested 62 people for 121 offenses, according to a press release issued Thursday.
In the past week, police issued 312 citations and arrested two people for 11 offenses.
The 312 citations were categorized as follows:

Cellular Phone/Electronic device (0)

No Driver’s License (7)

Contempt/Failure to appear warrant (1)
Revocation of Probation warrants (2)
Resisting Order to Stop Motor Vehicle (1)

Promoting a Dangerous Drug (1)
Drug Paraphernalia (1)
“The effort will continue for the duration of the ongoing protest situation to promote the safety of motorist and pedestrians alike,” the department stated in a media release.
