Accident closes highway for investigation

Hawaii Police report a traffic accident around 2:40 p.m. Sunday on the Queen Kaahumanu Highway south of Kona near the airport, and have closed the highway. Passersby noted the vehicles involved were a gray Honda Pilot and a Jeep, with one reported fatality and several injured, including injuries to minor children.

HPD has closed the highway for an investigation into the incident and rerouted traffic. The highway was reopened again around 8:30 p.m.
