Hawaii Island Humane Society presents Howl’ween
The Hawaii Island Humane Society is readying plans for its annual Howl’ween events slated for 3-5 p.m. Saturday at The Shops at Mauna Lani.
All walkers with or without dogs are invited to participate and are encouraged to raise pledges to support shelter animals.
Event highlights include costume competitions including best human/dog duo, a photo booth and beer, wine and cocktails. There are prizes for the most funds raised too! Get your personal fundraising link and sponsorship information at hihs.org.
Proceeds from the Howl’ween Dog Walk will benefit many of the Hawaii Island Humane Society’s many needs including pet supplies and free spay and neuter services to help to eliminate pet overpopulation.

HCFCU raises $9,500 in August Relay for Life
Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union’s Kailua-Kona, Kaloko and Kealakekua branches donated more than $9,500 to the 2019 American Cancer Society Relay for Life – Kona event. The monies were raised through in-branch ribbon sales, staff donations and fundraisers. HCFCU staff also sold ooey gooey “Slime” during the relay, which was a huge hit with kids. The event was held in August at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona.
Health and Hawaiian culture event Nov. 9
The fifth annual La Ohana event for health and Hawaiian culture takes place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 at Milolii Park, South Kona. Featuring health screening from UH Hilo School of Pharmacy, health insurance with Big Island Kokua Services Partnerships, cultural demonstrations, Hawaiian medicine (la’au lapa’au) from Hui Malama Ola Na ‘Oiwi, as well as informational booths from marine conservation organization, arts and crafts from local community vendors, baked goods, drinks, shaved ice, ono grinds, and live entertainment by local artists.
