Marian Freitas
Mrs. Marian Emily Freitas, 86, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 1, 2019, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Nov. 2, 1932, in Honolulu, she was a retired florist manager for Greeters of Hawaii at the Honolulu International Airport.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Oct. 23 at Dodo Mortuary’s Hilo Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Veteran Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo, and luncheon and fellowship at the Dodo Mortuary Lanai. The family requests casual attire.
She is survived by her sons, Edmund (Cathy) Freitas Jr. of Minden, Nev., and Joseph (Kristine) Freitas of Waimea; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and several cousins.

Barbara Stark
Barbara Ann Stark, 81, of Waimea, died Sept. 27, 2019, at her residence. Born April 25, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Penn., she was a retired administrative assistant and member of New Hope Waimea Christian Fellowship.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Nov. 2 at New Hope Waimea Christian Fellowship. Service at 11 a.m. Luncheon to follow.
She is survived by children, Kimberly Wetzel of New York, Kelly (Dionicio) Juan of Waimea, Paul (Connie) Stark of California, Kenneth (Danielle) Stark of Arizona; brother, Jeffrey (Kathleen) Gmys of New Jersey; sister, Linda McArdle of Waimea.

Arthur Winthrop
Arthur Merlin Winthrop, 11 months, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 15, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 2018, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

He is survived by his parents, Patrick and Mary Winthrop of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Isaiah Winthrop and Trey Winthrop of New Hampshire., David Winthrop of Vermont; sisters, Mya Winthrop of New Hampshire and Natalie Winthrop of Vermont; paternal grandfather, Bruce Winthrop of Colebrook, New Hampshire, paternal grandmother, Marie (Tim) Hofstetter of Vermont; maternal grandmother, Melva Lynn Davidson of Vermont.

Daniel Ongais
Daniel “Doc” Ongais, 81, of Keaau, died June 10, 1938, in Olaa. He was a retired motor vehicle operator for the United States Army as a civilian worker, a veteran in the United States Air Force and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Oct. 28 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again 9-10:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, Hawaii for a 10:30 a.m. celebration of Mass. Burial at 11:30 at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire, flowers and lei are welcomed.
He is survived by wife, Patricia P. Ongais of Keaau; daughters, Deneen (Nathan) Ongais Louie of Hilo, Renee (Clarence) Ongais-Salvador of Mountain View, Rosanne Ongais of Oceanside, Calif. and Daisy (Melvin) Ongais-Kilaulani of Keaau; sons, Carl Moe, Jr. of Hilo, Richard (Julie) Moe of Bethel Island, Calif., David (Vanessa) Moe of Keaau, James Moe of Las Vegas and Michael (Carrie) Moe of Brentwood, Calif.; brothers, Jerome (Jean) Ongies of Oahu, Claudino (Bernadette) Ongais of Washington and Steven (Elena) Ongais of Hilo; sisters, Constance Wheeler of Arkansas and Carmen Dusza of Oahu; one brother in-law; one sister in-law; 34 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

James Placek
Mr. James “Bud” Willard Placek, 73 of Captain Cook, died Sept. 18, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 18, 1946, in Belleville, Ill., he was an electrical engineer for NELHA, a U.S. Air Force retiree, U.S. Air Force Reserve and member of the Hawaii Air National Guard.
Inurnment with military honors will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 4 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona.
He is survived by his wife, Melvamae Placek of Captain Cook; sons, Colin Placek of Captain Cook, Justin Rickard of Honolulu, Christopher (Ashley Mello) Placek of San Diego; brother, Richard (Debbie) Placek of Arkansas; sister; Penny (Harold) Schmidt of Columbia Illinois.
