Christine Azevedo
Christine S. Azevedo, 93, of Hilo, died Oct. 13, 2019, at her residence. Born in Pepeekeo, she was a retired executive secretary for the former Carlsmith &Carlsmith, manager for the former Walli-Mae’s Slippers &Accessories, homemaker, member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo and the St. Joseph’s Aloha Choir.
Friends may call 8:30-9:30 a.m. Oct. 24 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Funeral service is at 10. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park.
She is survived by daughters, Virginia (Franklin) Veriato of Hilo, Valerie (Henry, Sr.) Pacheco of Wailuku, Maui, Annette (Patrick, Sr.) Aiona of Hilo; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Gwendolyn Chinen
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Momi Chinen, 66, of Hilo, died Sept. 1, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a realtor assistant and the owner of Gwen’s Towing.
Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Oct. 26 at New Hope Church Hilo. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers.
She is survived by sons, Alan Scott (Derick) Aki and Brandon (Charmaine) Chinen of Hilo; daughters, Kori (Landon) Higaki, Kelsy (David) Apao and Shaye (Kimo) Keliipaakaua of Hilo; sisters, Maile (Chris) Harris, Marcia (Bridget) Aki and Jasmine (Arthur) Nakayama of Hilo, Antoinette Toni Aki and Annette Nettie Aki of Keaau, Laurie (Irvin) Sarsona of Wailuku and Verdell (Jim) Cowles of Waianae; brother, Neal (Linh) Aki of Hilo; nine grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Chun Hung Leung
Chun Hung Leung, 82, died Oct. 17, 2019, at Life Care Center in Hilo. Born in Zhongshan, China, he was the owner of Diamond Restaurant and Pahoa Chop Suey House.

Alma Welborn
Alma Kamalu “Kukui” Kalima Welborn, 92, died at her son’s home in Burbank, Calif., on Sept. 28, 2019. Born March 24, 1927, in Hilo, she was full Hawaiian, active in Hawaiian groups, a hula dancer, a school librarian for over 30 years, and a choir singer and soloist.
