Harbor Market returns
The Harbor Market returns to Honokohau Harbor, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club.
The popular market will feature bargains on fishing tackle and lures, diving equipment, new and used boat hardware and accessories, local arts and crafts, clothing and accessories, as well as food and beverages. Come spend a few hours on a Saturday morning enjoying Kona’s small boat harbor. Plenty of free parking.
The Harbor Market supports the nonprofit Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club, the second-oldest saltwater big game fishing organization in the country. Founded in 1914 in Hilo, the club has served Hawaii’s sport fishing community across the state for 105 years.

Third-annual AstroDay is Nov. 3
AstroDay returns to West Hawaii in November, hosted by Kealakehe High School in conjunction with the ninth annual Hawaii Island Robotics Expo and Showcase (HIRES), 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3. Observatories from Maunakea and Haleakala will be represented, as well as other technology, education, and cultural organizations. Highlights include a portable planetarium, solar viewing, educational games and toys, and a wide variety of guided activities.
HI-RES, sponsored by FIRST Robotics, showcases Hawaii Island students’ skills in robotics. More than 200 elementary to high school students from 10 schools are expected to compete, and winning teams advance to the state championship in December. This year’s competition focuses on structures, engineering and architecture for building sustainable communities. HIRES is also free and open to the public.

Cancer talk at
KCH Oct. 26
The Kona Community Hospital (KCH) Cancer Center is conducting a workshop entitled, “Frankly Speaking about Cancer: Metastatic Breast Cancer,” held 9-11 a.m. Oct. 26 in the KCH administration building, first floor conference room 2. KCH Cancer Center Oncology Nurse, Vicky Atkinson will conduct the workshop. Oncologist, Dr. Forrest Swan, Jr. will be on hand to answer attendee questions.
