Call needs more accurate title
Mikie Kerr’s latest “Constitution Corner” article on impeachment contains about two sentences on the constitution and the rest is composed of familiar standard pro-Trump talking points.
In my opinion, instead of “Constitution Corner,” the column should be titled “Right Wing Views on Bending the Constitution.”
Call it what it is.

Column pounding continues
Mikie Kerr is presented as our local “constitutional enthusiast” and I look forward to her next installment of explaining parts of the Constitution. Hopefully, she will cover such topics as our government consisting of three equal branches. I trust she will include some discussion of each branch having its own separate and independent responsibilities and powers. Google “checks and balances.”
For the House of Representatives, this means one of its duties is performing oversight (specifically, this includes oversight of the executive branch) and deciding the procedures for conducting detailed examinations.
In addition, I expect she will mention that the House “shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.” And, along with this, that impeachment does not apply to members of Congress, however much it might be wished by the stable genius in the White House.
Finally, I hope Mikie will include a section on how the Constitution defines treason … and how that term does not apply to anything going on in today’s politics, no matter what Trump, in his “great and unmatched wisdom,” says.

Bureaucratic money boats float all
Look for more tax raises to go along with what the ocean is doing. The sea level rising is floating all out of work eco-opportunists. Now, Hawaii County Council members are casting bread, our property tax money, upon the political waters.
Adrift are many flimflam artists. The fortunate ones will clutch onto the floating dollar, and be hoisted aboard the Big Island Gravy Boat. Once aboard, the lucky sycophants will be handsomely paid to make up mottoes and slogans. These are crafted to put the average citizen on a guilt trip. However, the political insiders must spend some of their newfound wealth on campaign fundraising tickets — or else be forced to walk the plank.
Zero Waste, Open Space and wastewater utopias are still being funded in the name of ecology. However, Big Island politicians will need a longer boat to hold the Sea Level Rising crew. The unfortunate dry land property owner will be taxed to pay for it.
Yes, the Love Boat is leaving, all right. The spin-doctors and bureaucrats are leaving us with empty pockets.
