Hubert Griep
Hubert Frances Griep, 89, of Volcano, died July 9, 2019, at home. Born Feb. 11, 1930, in Honolulu, he was a retired District Sales Manager for GTE Yellow Pages.
Service to be held July 27 at St. Theresa Church in Mountain View. Visitation at 9 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m.
Survived by spouse, Harriet Griep; son, Michael Griep; daughter, Holly (Len) Waters; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Macario Balucan
Macario Bios Balucan, AKA Macario Anthony Kalei Balucan “Uncle Tony,” 63, of Hilo, died June 30, 2019, at Legacy of Hilo. Born Sept. 4, 1955, in South Kona, he was a shoreline fisherman and member of First Assembly of God.
Services to be held July 27 at First Assembly of God Church in Pepeekeo. Visitation at 9 a.m., service at 10 a.m. Private scattering of ashes to be held at a later date.
Survived by spouse, Scarlet Balucan of Hilo; sons, Justin (Cyanne) Bondaug-Balucan of Keaau, and Macario Balucan of Hilo; daughter, Jonalynn Balucan of Las Vegas; brothers, Nario Libron of Kohala, John (Judy) Balucan of Kailua-Kona, Denis (Audrey) Balucan of Kailua-Kona; three brothers-in-law; sisters, Isabella Dela Cruz of Kailua-Kona, Felicia Gragas of Mountain View, Patricia Segovia of Kamuela, Matilda (Wayne) Cazimero of Kailua; nine grandchildren.

Violet Walker-De Motta
Violet Hazel Walker-De Motta, 82, of Pahoa, died June 10, 2019, at home. She was born in South Kona and was a homemaker, a member of the Kalapana Mauna Kea 1st Hawaiian Congregational Church and the Pahoa Kupuna Program.
Visitation 6-9 p.m. July 25 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel, wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation also 9-10 a.m. July 26 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., followed by burial at the Homelani Memorial Park. Casual or purple-colored attire.
Survived by brother, Herman (Barbara) Walker of Wahiawa; sister, Shirley (Bob) Cruz of Las Vegas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Keoni Atkinson
Keoni Ka’ineianu’uanu Pe’a Atkinson, 60, of Kailua-Kona, died June 18, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 26, 1958, he was a master kumu hula and entertainer who was also known as “The Ambassador of Aloha.”
A celebration of life will be held 1-5 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Sheraton Keauhou Kaleiopapa Convention Center. Service at 2 p.m. Family requests casual or aloha attire.
Survived by wife, Susana Atkinson; daughters, Pi’ialoha Pe’a Grace, Iwalani Pe’a Atkinson, Lilinoe Pe’a Atkinson, Oilipua Pe’a Atkinson all of Kailua Kona; mother, Norma Jean Davis of California; brothers, Frankie Atkinson, Robert Atkinson both of Kailua Kona; sister, Deborah Atkinson of California; five grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

Masako Nishikawa
Masako “Mako” Tatsuta Nishikawa, 92, of Hilo, died May 27, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born Jan. 31, 1927, in Mountain View, she was retired from the former Hilo Hospital, volunteered at Kamana Senior Center and E.B. de Silva Elementary School and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association, Hilo Hospital Retirees and UPW Retirees.
Friends may call at noon, July 27, at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 1 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.
Survived by sons, Neil (Sanae) Nishikawa, Darret (Janet) Nishikawa, Scot (Deann) Nishikawa, all of Honolulu; daughter, Lois (Chris) Nakano of Hilo; brothers, Hideto (Jane) Tatsuta of Honolulu, Ron Tatsuta of California, Raymond Tatsuta of Mountain View; sisters, Sue Tanaka of California, Yaeko (Mars) Lefeber of Washington; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Archie Aki Jr.
Archie Ah See Aki, Jr., 91, of Hilo, died July 9, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kona, he was a retired bosun with the Matson Navigation Company, a commercial fisherman and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Visitation 9-11 a.m. Aug. 4 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Casual attire.
Survived by companion, Minnie Bicoy of Ainaloa; daughters, Maile (Chris) Harris, Gwen Chinen, Marcia (Bridget) Aki and Jasmine (Arthur) Nakayama, all of Hilo, Laurie (Irvin) Sarsona of Wailuku, Verdell (Jim) Cowles of Waianae, Antoinette Toni Aki and Annette Nettie Aki of Keaau; son, Neal (Linh) Aki of Hilo; a sister-in-law; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley De Luz
Shirley May De Luz, 80, of Waimea, died July 4, 2019, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Waimea on May 15, 1939, she was a customer representative for Pacific Bell Telephone Company and a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea.
Visitation will be held at 8 a.m., July 27, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea; mass will begin at 10 a.m. followed by burial at the Mauna Kea Memorial Park in Papaikou. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.
She is survived by sisters, Betty De Luz and Rose Hatakeyama of Waimea; brother, Jacinth (Yvonne) De Luz Jr. of Waimea; a sisster-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Ronald Jordan
Ronald “Will” William Jordan, 74, of Kailua-Kona, died July 2, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 27, 1945, in Bangor, Maine, he was a former surgical nurse, construction worker for Dean Johnson Construction Company, past member and officer for Kona Elks 2616, charter member and officer for the VFW Post 12122, and a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran who served as a member of the 101 Airborne Division.

He is survived by longtime companion, Bonnie Hodkinson of Kailua-Kona; numerous friends.
