A fire took hold late Friday morning, around 11:33 a.m., at the Lokahi Apartment complex on Kakahiaka Street in Kailua-Kona.
Firefighters quenched the blaze relatively quickly, the Hawaii Fire Department said, characterizing the flames as “nothing severe.” No deaths or injuries were reported. The department said property loss was minimal and damage was limited mostly to some smoldering.
Nevertheless, volunteers with the American Red Cross also headed to the scene in the aftermath to provide emergency support for any residents in need, including offerings of food, shelter and clothing.
