Popular introductory stained glass workshop returns to Volcano Art Center

Try your hand at making stained glass art in this workshop for beginners. All of the basic techniques will be covered, from glass cutting, foiling, soldering, and completing with patina and polishing compound. Glass artist Lois Pollock will share her expertise and knowledge, teaching students the skills involved in working safely with stained glass, and creating a beautiful, sturdy piece of art.

“Stained Glass Basics I” will be held at Volcano Art Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 18 and 25 and June 1 and 2. Class fee is $100/$90 for VAC members plus a $15 supply fee. Attendees are asked to wear long pants, snug fitting gloves, covered shoes and safety glasses. Advance registration is required and this workshop will be limited to six adults.

Kailua Village Artists’ featured theme by all member artists in May is ‘May Day — Lei Day’

Kailua Village Artists’ featured theme for the month of May is “May Day — Lei Day,” a collective art exhibit by all member artists of the gallery.

The Kailua Village Artists Gallery has been a local co-operative gallery since 1987. The gallery is owned and operated by its resident member artists. It is now the oldest co-operative gallery in the state of Hawaii.

Kailua Village Artists 10-member artists include: Jennifer Azzarone, Tom Carey, Kathy Carr, Stefanie Culbertson, Betty Gerstner, Pat Hedden, Bill Jaeger, Kathleen Jaeger, Christal Nylin, and Linda Savell.

Kailua Village Artists five guest artists include: Frank Andrews, Rachel Baker, Brad Lewis, Scott Pincus, and Bill Twibell.

The Kailua Village Artists Gallery is located at 75-5729 Alii Drive, Suite C-110 in the Kona Marketplace in Kailua-Kona. The gallery is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Blue Sea Artisans’ featured artist is Stefanie Culbertson

The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of May is watercolor artist and digital designer Stefanie Culbertson.

Culbertson has been painting with watercolors since she first moved to Hawaii in 1989 from Germany. Her fascination with the lush beauty of this island still inspires her art and she has grown deep roots here.

To meet the artist and learn more about her work and the inspiration of her art, she’ll be working at the gallery on May 13, May 20 and May 27. The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery is located in the Keauhou Shopping Center, Courtyard, 78-6831 Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona.
