HONOLULU — The Queen’s Health Systems today announced the selection of Dr. Jill Hoggard Green as the statewide system’s new president and chief executive officer, the hospital announced in a press release today.
A nationally acclaimed and highly respected health care leader with 39 years of experience, Hoggard Green will join Queen’s in October of 2019, succeeding Art Ushijima, a press release stated.
“Jill will continue the exemplary leadership that has been at the heart of Queen’s since its founding by Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV 160 years ago,” said Jenai Wall, chair of the board of trustees of The Queen’s Health Systems. “Not only is she a caring and compassionate leader, but she has achieved recognition and success through her dedication to clinical excellence, commitment to staff development and devotion to the mission of each organization she serves.”
Hoggard Green is currently president of Mission Hospital and served as chief operating officer of Mission Health in Asheville, North Carolina, from 2011 until it was acquired by HCA Healthcare in February of this year. She has been recognized as one of Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Chief Operating Officers (2018) and Becker’s Top 130 Women Leaders in Healthcare (2016-2018).
Hoggard Green’s appointment is the result of a comprehensive nation-wide search that commenced last fall when Ushijima announced his upcoming retirement, the release stated.
Guided by global executive search firm Korn Ferry, a committee appointed by the board of trustees of The Queen’s Health Systems selected Hoggard Green as the organization’s next CEO based on her outstanding accomplishments and experience, exemplary leadership skills, proven success at improving quality of care, and deep appreciation for the Queen’s mission.
“I am humbled by the critical needs The Queen’s Health Systems serves within communities throughout the islands,” Hoggard Green said in the release. “Together, we plan to continue advancing Queen’s good work, supporting clinical excellence through our physicians, offering resources to further develop our staff, and most importantly, delivering quality care to our patients in service of our founder’s mission.”
Mission Health is a $2 billion, 12,000 employee health system comprised of six hospitals, including a 770-bed teaching hospital, multiple ambulatory care facilities, an 800-plus provider group practice, a $100-plus million post-acute provider, a health plan and related services. In 2018, for a remarkable six times in seven years (2012-2018), Mission Health was named one of the nation’s Top 15 Health Systems by IBM Watson Health.
Hoggard Green’s accomplishments at Mission Health include: doubled revenue and income while markedly expanding ambulatory services; dramatically improved physician relations and developed a 1,200-plus provider clinically integrated network comprised of a majority of independent physicians.
Prior to joining Mission Health, Hoggard Green served as chief operating officer of the Oregon Region of Peace Health, which included four hospitals, over 600 medical staff members, over 200 employed clinicians, and 4,500 caregivers.
