Crossfit Pohaku will hold a workout of the day (WOD) in memory of Hawaii Police Department Officer Bronson Kaliloa on Saturday at 9 a.m. The Hero WOD Badge 444 will take place at the gym’s Kopiko St. location.
Kaliloa was shot and killed on duty in Mountain View on July 18, 2018 while making a high-risk traffic stop of a wanted suspect. He was 46 years old and is survived by his wife and three children.
Thousands of people gathered at Kaliloa’s funural , which was held at the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium on July 28, 2018. Fellow police officers came from across the state to attend.
Kaliloa grew up on Kauai, graduating from Waimea High School in 1990. He spent several years on Oahu before moving to the Big Island, where he became a police officer in 2008. In 2014 he was named Puna Patrol Officer of the Year.
In honor of Kaliloa’s service to the Big Island community, and the sacrifice of all Hawaii police officers and their families, the Hero WOD is named after Kaliloa’s badge number, 444
To date, there have been over 700 Hero WODs established by Crossfit communities around the world to commemorate fallen and wounded soldiers and public servants.
