Police arrest 15 on suspicion of DUI from April 4-7

KAILUA-KONA — From April 4-7, police arrested 15 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, the Hawaii Police Department said.

Of those, five were involved in an accident.

The departmentsaid so far there have been 320 arrests for driving under the influence, up 7.4 percent from the same time last year. Police also said there have been 254 major accidents so far this year, down 28.5 percent from the same time last year.

There have been five fatal crashes resulting in five fatalities so far this year, police said. That’s compared with six fatal crashes resulting in seven fatalities from the same time last year.

Police said DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
