Parkinson’s and Neuroplasticity Wellness Support ~ meets from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday. People with PD and other neurological challenges, their care partners and others wanting to be part of a local Parkinson’s community support network are encouraged to attend these monthly gatherings. Discussion focuses on personal experiences, community and PD related topics, including current research. Attendance by regular and new members is encouraged.
Plant Based Potluck Hui meets on Wednesday, April 17 from 5-6:30 p.m. with Vivienne Aronowitz, MPH, and registered dietitian. Eating a plant-based diet is a powerful action we can take to protect the planet, promote better health and sustainability! We exchange recipes, tips and food. Bring a copy of your recipe, ensuring it includes NO ingredients from animals (meat, fish, poultry, eggs or dairy). Dishes must be service-ready. Please bring your own reusable plates, bowls, and utensils.
The Speed of Light. This educational program will be presented from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 with Louise Riofrio, former Scientist at NASA Johnson Space Center and author of bestselling book The Speed of Light. Light is one of the most important parts of our life. Before and after her work at NASA, Louise discovered that the speed of light is changing. This discovery affects everything from your computer to Earth’s climate. Louise talks about a real life battle between light and “dark energy,” the healing properties of light and her work with celestial navigation.
Healthcare Advocacy Learning &Support Group meets from 5:30-7 p.m. on Friday, April 19 with guest speaker Corey McCullough, LSW at North Hawaii Community Hospital. When someone is hospitalized, often a family member or friend falls into the role of health advocate. Before the need arises, learn what insurance will cover, how to ask for help and how to help family and friends. Whether you are sick or well, the support of a family member or friend can make a difference in your health experience and results.
Will vs. Trust ~ John G. Roth, local estate planning attorney with Hawaii Trust &Law Counsel, will share this educational information from 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. It’s possible to use a will or a trust to say who you want to receive your property after your life, but each accomplishes different outcomes. Learn how trusts can sometimes be used to achieve additional goals, such as avoiding the probate process, protecting property in the event of a lawsuit or divorce, minimizing taxes, and reducing the chances of disputes following a person’s death. There will be time allowed for questions.
Wisdom ~ Sharing ~ Synergy. Join this circle from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, led by Keith Amber, author of Truths that Set You Free. Bring a notebook or journal, and be prepared to share inspirational sayings, insights or experiences to light the way for our conversation with the intention to give rise to unconditional well-being for individuals and our shared community. AARP Smart Driver Course is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. on Monday, April 29 with certified volunteer educator Susan Yandall. This classroom refresher course is for drivers 50-plus years old, but all ages are welcome. Learn safety strategies to keep you safe on the road.
