KEAUHOU — Keaweawe‘ula Kiwala‘o Kauikeaouli Kaleiopapa was born at Keauhou Bay in 1814. He would go on to become Kamehameha III.

Friday the Daughters of Hawaii honored the king with a birthday celebration at the sight of his birth with song, hula, chants and hookupu.

Guest speaker Lily Lyons spoke about the birth and life of Hawaii’s third and longest ruling monarch who established the Hawaii Constitution and Great Mahele system of land ownership.

The Daughters of Hawaii, who own the parcel of land where Kamehameha III was born, have been celebrating the monarch’s birth since 1973.
