KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Feb. 4 and Sunday. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash.
Kona and Puna officers arrested seven drivers in each district while South Hilo officers arrested six, according to data released by the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in South Kohala arrested five motorists.
So far this year, there have been 119 DUI arrests compared with 120 during the same period last year, according to police. There have been 99 major accidents so far this year compared with 117 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.4 percent.
Two fatalities had been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways through Tuesday, police said. That was the same case in 2018.
