KAILUA-KONA — One lane of Akoni Pule Highway has reopened in the Halaula area following a landslide amid heavy rainfall Wednesday morning in North Kohala.
Hawaii Police said shortly after noon that dirt and debris has been removed from one lane of the roadway, also known as Highway 270, in the vicinity of mile marker 24, on the Pololu Valley side of Kalahikiola Congregational Church. It is unknown how long the single-lane closure will be in effect.
The landslide occurred amid heavy rainfall in North Hawaii that prompted a flood advisory until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
