KAILUA-KONA — The Vehicle Registration and Driver’s License services are open in Waimea and the West Hawaii Civil Center after being shut down Monday due to a damaged fiber line.
The line was damaged during the weekend’s winter storm, which damaged several power poles resulting in power disruption for about 45,000 Hawaii Electric customers at one point.
As of this morning, about 270 customers remain without power. HELCO crews continue to make repairs today to fully restore services. Highway 19 between the 38 and 39 mile markers will be restricted to a single lane of traffic from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. today to facilitate repairs. Officials ask motorists to drive with caution.
The Department of Water Supply has restored water services to the Honokaa Area.
Beach parks are open after being closed for the past few days due to high surf warnings and advisories. However the National Weather Service has a high surf advisory in place for north and east facing shores and a high wind warning for Hawaii Island summits remain in effect.
Anyone who has experienced property damage during this incident, is asked to call Civil Defense at 935-0031 to make a report.
