KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 16 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Jan. 28 and Sunday.
Kona officers arrested six drivers while South Kohala officers arrested four, according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in South Hilo, North Hilo and Puna arrested three motorists in each district.
So far this year, there have been 93 DUI arrests compared with 96 during the same period last year, according to police.
Two fatalities had been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways through Monday, police said. That was the same case in 2018.
