Rotary Sunrise donates rulers,
peace poles
As part of its “Promoting Peace” initiative, the Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise donated 900 Peace Rules, 1-foot rulers, to Kahakai Elementary School on Wednesday. The rulers are made of recycled denim or newspaper and plastic.
The club is also installing peace poles around West Hawaii area starting with one installed in December at the West Hawaii Civic Center. The peace poles come with peace messages including English, Hawaiian, Japanese and Filipino (Tagalog). Other locations being considered for peace poles are the Kona International Airport, Hale Halawai, Coconut Grove Market Place and Mauna Kea Visitor Center.
Cuaresma makes EOU dean’s list
Alexandria Cuaresma of Kailua-Kona was among 526 students named to the Eastern Oregon University dean’s list for the fall 2018 term, achieving at least a 3.5 GPA with 12 or more hours of graded coursework.
Toyota Dream Car
art contest
Toyota is seeking entries for its 13th Toyota Dream Car Art Contest and invites keiki ages 4-15 to submit a drawing of their dream car. All entries must be submitted by Jan. 31 to be eligible for prizes.
The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest is designed to inspire creativity in youth and imagine the future of mobility. Winners of the contest in participating countries worldwide are chosen from three age categories: under 8 years old; 8-11 years old; and 12-15 years old, with judging based on three criteria: artistry, uniqueness, and execution of concept.
Winners’ prizes include the opportunity to enter the Toyota Motor Corporation World Competition for a chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Japan.
