KAILUA-KONA — The Hawaii County Department of Water Supply will hold a meeting on the long-awaited repairs project at Waikoloa Reservoir No. 1, the department announced in a press release.
DWS has scheduled the meeting for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Waimea Community Center, located at 65-1260 Kawaihae Road in Kamuela. The release noted that project details, schedule and other information will be provided at the meeting.
Waikoloa Reservoir No. 1 was one of several structures damaged during earthquakes that impacted the Big Island in October 2006.
The reservoir remained operational, filled only halfway due to damage to its upper regions, while Waikoloa Reservoir No. 2 underwent full repairs. The latter reservoir suffered damage down to its floor.
Repairs on Waikoloa Reservoir No. 2 were completed in 2011. The department told West Hawaii Today in a 2011 story that work was expected to commence and be completed on Waikoloa Reservoir No. 1 in 2012, but unspecified delays pushed the project back several years.
