KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 14 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Jan. 1 and Sunday. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash and one was younger than age 21.
Kona officers arrested six drivers, officers in South Hilo arrested four drivers and South Kohala officers arrested two, according to data released Monday by the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in Puna and Ka‘u arrested one motorist in each district.
So far this year, there have been 14 DUI arrests compared with 17 during the same period last year, according to police.
No fatalities had been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways through Monday, police said.
