KAILUA-KONA — A Kailua-Kona man has been indicted on charges connected to a stabbing in October on Kaiminani Drive.
Drew Camacho, 34, was indicted on Dec. 11 on two counts of second-degree assault, kidnapping, first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. According to the court document, Camacho caused bodily injury to a man with a knife and/or statue. He also caused bodily injury to a woman with a statue.
The indictment indicates Camacho restrained a woman with the intent to inflict bodily injury and threatened the “imminent use of force” against both individuals.
Charges stem from an incident that occurred at a home on Oct. 29. According to police, Camacho went to the residence on Kaiminani Drive without the knowledge of the residents, a 42-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man. The three were acquaintances, and Camacho had previously been to the home.
Camacho apparently assaulted the woman before the man intervened and was also assaulted. The woman reportedly suffered injuries to her head while the man suffered injuries to his head and shoulder area.
Camacho was originally taken into custody on Nov. 4 on outstanding bench warrants and as a suspect in the stabbing. Initially charged with second-degree assault and third-degree assault, the counts were dismissed without prejudice by District Court Judge Margaret Masunaga on Nov. 14 when witnesses expected to testify at a preliminary hearing in the case didn’t show up to court on time.
Bail, which had been set at $11,000, was canceled, although Camacho remained in custody on an unrelated charge following the hearing.
Camacho is still in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center.
