George Gomes, Sr.
George Gomes Sr., 78, of Hilo, formerly of Honokaa, died Nov. 17, 2018, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Honokaa, he was a retired plantation worker for Paauilo Experiment Station, worked for UAL catering at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, and was a lifetime cowboy.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 14 at St. Joseph Church in Hilo for a service; Mass at 10 a.m. Inurnment at Homelani Memorial Park to follow. A memorial gathering will be held afterward at St Joseph Church Hall. Family requests casual attire.
He is survived by life partner, Bonnie Rosa; son, George (Toni Keawe) Gomes Jr. of Kona; three daughters, Valarie Gomes of Hilo, Shannon (Lester) Gomes Riggle of Maui, Roxanne (Jolene Florendo) Gomes of Hilo; brothers, Herbert ( Judy) Gomes of Maui and Clarence (Sharon) Gomes of Maui; sisters, Louise Coon of Washington and Mary Alice Hollenbeck of Santa Rosa; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Josephine Takayama
Josephine Hiroko Takayama, 81, of Hilo died Nov. 14, 2018, at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Hilo, she retired from a career in sales with the former Liberty House and Macy’s.
Private services will be held at a later date. Her family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary donations).
She is survived by daughters, Terry Warrington of Santa Fe, N.M., Laura Hashimoto of Oahu, Deborah (Vladimir Skorikov) Hashimoto-Skorikov of Hilo; sisters, Charlotte Tetsuka of Washington, Carol Boesing Canterbury of Oahu, Eunice Yasukawa of Oahu; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley Coney
Shirley Ruth Coney, 89, of Pahoa, died Nov. 24, 2018, at her residence. Born in Taft, Calif., she was a retired laboratory technologist and former member of the Kaneohe Yacht Club &Deck Hands on Oahu.

She is survived by son, William Ha’alelea Coney of Waimea, John Patrick (Janet) Coney of Volcano; daughters, Katherine Lee Coney of Pahoa, Jill Marie Coney of Pahoa, Shirley Kaikilani Burrows of Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Katherine Molony of Santa Barbara, California; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Zachary Gibson
Zachary “Zack” Bradford Gibson, 52, of Honokaa died on Nov. 4, 2018, at Pohai Malama in Hilo. Born May 12, 1966, in the Philippines at the Subic Bay U.S. Naval Base, he was a Native Hawaiian farmer of medicinal plants for Pu’u’ala Farms and founder and owner of the Kanaka Kava restaurant.
Friends may call at noon Jan. 19 for a celebration of life service at Honokohau Harbor, 74-380 Kealakehe Parkway, in Kailua-Kona and at noon Jan. 20 at Pu’u’ala Farms and Ranch located, 44-2224 Government Main Road in Honokaa. Jerry Spain
Jerry James Spain, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, died Nov. 17, 2018. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on Feb. 28, 1929, served in the Army during World War II and the Korean conflict, held numerous positions in the American Federation of Musicians Local 6, including president; and was a deputy city attorney for San Francisco.

David Hubbard
David Lewis Hubbard, 62, of Pepeekeo, died Dec. 2, 2018 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 25, 1956, in Colorado, he was a well-known fine artist, teacher and philosopher on life.
Friends may gather at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 at Hilo Fine Art Center in Keaau, 16-643 Kipimana St., Suite 14, for a memorial service.
He is survived by mother, Wilma L. Hubbard; brothers, Steven L. Hubbard and Ronald L. (Sandra) Hubbard; eight nieces and nephews and 22 great-nieces and great nephews.

Robert Michioka
Robert Takashi Michioka, 60, of Hilo, (formerly of Koloa, Kauai), died Dec. 5, 2018, in the Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born in Lihue, Kauai, on Sept. 19, 1958, and was employed by Nick’s Garage in Hilo and the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. He was a member of various bowling leagues including the HGEA Mixed Handicap, Wednesday Night Mixed League, Friday Night Trio and Hilo AJA Bowling Club.
Visitation will 4-5 p.m. Dec. 17 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. Casual attire. No flowers.
He is survived by wife, Lyndie Michioka of Hilo; brothers, Stanley (Shirley Viquelia) Michioka of Hanapepe, Kauai, Melvin Michioka of Lihue, Kauai and Gary (Judy) Michioka of Kapaa, Kauai; sister, Mary (Ken) Fuji of Mililani, Oahu; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Toshiko Kato
Toshiko Kato, 94, of Honolulu died Nov. 7, 2018, in Honolulu. Born in Kohala, she was a retired cafeteria baker for Kohala High and Elementary Schools and a former member of Kohala Jodo Mission.

She is survived by sons, Stanley (Nora), Roy (Dolorita), Rex (Mary) and Roger (Debra) Kato; daughters, Janice Kato and Rae (Glenn) Matsuo; brother Shotoku Nakasato; sisters, Tomie Miyashiro and Janet Kimura; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Ambrosio Callo
Ambrosio Callo, 91, of Hilo, died Nov. 29, 2018, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born on Dec. 7, 1926, in Narvacan, Philippines, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Yamada and Sons, Inc., Construction Company. He also was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Friends may call 8:30-10 a.m. Dec. 21 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. memorial Mass. Casual attire and no flowers. An urn committal will be 9 a.m. Dec. 24 at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 (Columbarium/ Niche Section) with military honors.
He is survived by wife, Rose Marie Callo of Hilo; sons, Gerard Callo and Gregory (Jonette) Callo of Honolulu; daughters, Rochelle (Guy) Masutani of Honolulu and Lourdette (James) Ontiveros of Waimea, Hawaii; sister, Angelita Callo of Napoleon, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Henry Menino
Henry R. Menino, 85, of Hilo, died Dec. 5, 2018, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born 1933 in Hilo, he was a sales representative for American Factors and later in life he owned M’s Electronics in Hilo where he serviced and repaired televisions and other electronic equipment.

Aquilino C. Corpuz, 88, of Keaau, died Nov. 17, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born May 17, 1930, in Laoag City, Philippines, he was a retired macadamia nut and coffee picker.

Hisae Motoyama, 96, of Waimea and formerly of Hilo, died Oct. 10, 2018, at a private care home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired office clerk for Theo H. Davies and a member of the Hilo Meishoin Mission.
