KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested seven motorists for suspected drunken driving between Nov. 26 and Sunday. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
Kona officers arrested five drivers while officers in South Hilo and Puna arrested one driver in each district, according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in North Kohala nabbed one motorist.
So far this year, there have been 987 DUI arrests compared with 1,057 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through Monday, there have been 28 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 31 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
