Does less vog mean hotter afternoons?

As reported in WHT recently, the vog and SO2 being emitted from Kilauea Volcano are now at the lowest levels in recent years. We all agree, it has been wonderful here in West Hawaii with much clearer air, with beautiful, clear blue sky days, the nicest since we moved here about five-plus years ago.

On the other hand, it seems to us the afternoon air temperatures in the last few weeks (maybe since the volcano shut down?) have been the warmest ever? We expected November to cool down, but so far, not so much.

The question of the day, did the vog we had in previous years assist in keeping our daytime temperatures lower? I have heard this word on the street. Can you locals provide your opinions, please?

Let public know hours

Sunday was the “Great Hawaii Snafu.”

County landfills were closed, and administrative offices were closed on Monday. Will someone at the county please get their act together?

Maybe a sign at each landfill to indicate the next upcoming closure day and date. Would that be asking too much?

Return call too much to ask?

Being a candidate for Hawaii State Senate District 3, after reviewing the official preliminary results on Tuesday, Nov. 6, and seeing that I was trailing behind Dru Kanuha, I attempted to call and offer my congratulations.

I called the telephone number listed on his campaign filing form, and left a congratulatory message. As of today, Monday, Nov. 12, I have yet to receive a thank you call (or message) from my opponent.

Perhaps he is too busy going about the duties of county council and/or state Senate. But I think it is very rude for someone not to return a call. I would never do that, but again he was the successful candidate and I came in second.

So, Dru, don’t bother calling me!
