KAILUA-KONA — A 34-year-old Kona man is in police custody in connection with a stabbing last week at a Kaiminani Drive home that sent two to the hospital.
Drew Ikaika Camacho was located at 9 a.m. Sunday and arrested without incident, the Hawaii Police Department said Monday.
Camacho had been sought since the morning of Oct. 29 when he reportedly came to the home at 73-1392 Kaiminani Drive without the knowledge of the residents, a 42-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, according to police. The three were acquaintances, and Camacho had previously been to the residence.
Hawaii Police Maj. Robert Wagner said that Camacho apparently assaulted the woman before the man intervened and was also assaulted. The woman reportedly suffered injuries to her head while the man suffered injuries to his head and shoulder area.
Camacho reportedly fled the scene in a black 1998 Honda Civic sedan that was later located on Ahikawa Street. A second person was with the suspect but stayed inside the vehicle. Only the suspect participated in the assault, said Wagner.
The victims were taken by medics to Kona Community Hospital for treatment.
Police initially declined to provide additional details regarding the injuries or how they were inflicted, but did confirm that weapons were used in the incident. On Monday, police confirmed the incident was a stabbing in the press release regarding the capture of Camacho who had been on the run for nearly a week.
