KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 18 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Oct. 29 and Sunday. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash.
Kona officers arrested nine drivers while South Hilo officers arrested three, according to data released Monday by the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in Puna, Ka’u and South Kohala arrested two motorists in each district.
So far this year, there have been 931 DUI arrests compared with 974 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through Monday, there have been 27 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 28 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
