KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 22 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Oct. 22 and Sunday. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash.
Kona officers arrested 13 drivers while South Hilo officers arrested seven and South Kohala officers two, according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 913 DUI arrests compared with 950 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through Tuesday, there have been 26 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 28 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
