KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 13 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Oct. 15 and Sunday. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, and two were younger than age 21.
Kona officers arrested seven drivers while South Hilo officers arrested three and Puna officers two, according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department. South Kohala officers nabbed one motorist.
So far this year, there have been 891 DUI arrests compared with 929 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through Tuesday, there have been 26 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 27 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
