KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested nine motorists for suspected drunken driving between Oct. 8 and Sunday. None were involved in a traffic crash or younger than age 21.
Kona officers arrested four drivers while South Hilo officers arrested three and Puna officers two, according to data released Wednesday by the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 878 DUI arrests compared with 905 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through Wednesday, there have been 26 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 27 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
