KAILUA-KONA — A 26-year-old man is facing two charges in connection with a reported sexual assault Thursday night at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Hawaii Police arrested Daniel Brooks, of no permanent address, about 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Hilo. He was later charged with fourth-degree sexual assault. In a complaint, filed by prosecutors, a charge of attempted fourth-degree assault was added.
He made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court on Monday where he pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to 3rd Circuit Court records. His bail was also reduced from $500 to $400.
Police on Friday had requested the public’s assistance identifying a man whose image was captured on surveillance video in the vicinity of the alleged assault.
Hawaii Police officers were summoned to the campus about 8 p.m. after a female student reported to campus security that she had been accosted by an unknown man within a restroom on campus about a half-hour earlier, police said.
I’m starting to wonder if the judges and prosecutors are all on CRACK. $400.00 bail what an insult. Even the news casters looked at each other in dismay when they said it was lowered to $400
