KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Oct. 1 and Sunday. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, and one was younger than age 21.
Kona officers arrested 13 drivers while South Hilo officers arrested eight and Puna officers four, according to data released Monday by the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 869 DUI arrests compared with 884 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through Tuesday, there have been 25 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 26 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
