SAN DIEGO — Laukoa Santos is making his presence known for San Diego State.
The former Kealakehe and Kona Crush standout scored his first collegiate goal on Monday, helping the Aztecs secure a 2-1 victory over UNLV.
Santos — a 2017 Kealakehe grad and redshirt freshman with the Aztecs — was named the “Man of the Match” in a release by the school.
“He played extremely well tonight and did a lot of good things for us on both sides of the ball,” San Diego State head coach Lev Kirshner said of Santos.
The win over UNLV was San Diego State’s fourth in a row after starting the year 0-2-1. Santos’ tally was a big reason the streak continued.
“We’ve been working hard all year and to win four games in a row is a great reward,” Santos said after the match. “We are loving every second of it.”
Santos’ pretty goal is something BIIF crowds had become accustomed to during his prep career at Kealakehe, where he was named the three-time BIIF player of the year. Teammate Keegan Kelly found Santos at the top of the box and he bent it inside the near post from about 25 yards out.
While it was his first, there will likely be more goals coming for Santos. So far this season, he is tied for the Aztecs team-lead with 10 shots.
