HILO — Police on Friday arrested and charged a 33-year-old Pasadena, Calif., man on a bench warrant issued Sept. 12 with a sealed indictment.
The warrant charges Milton Giovanni Ferreyro with two counts of second-degree promotion of child abuse and one count of third-degree promotion of child abuse.
Second-degree promotion of child abuse is a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and is usually associated with dissemination or intent to disseminate child pornography.
Third-degree promotion of child abuse is a Class C felony punishable by up to five years imprisonment and is usually associated with the possession of child pornography.
According to a police log, Ferreyro was taken into custody at 8:25 p.m. Friday at the Hilo International Airport. His bail was set at $120,000.
According to Ferreyro’s Facebook page, he was recently a student at the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and formerly worked as a certified pharmacy technician in California.
Ferreyro was not in custody when he appeared without an attorney Monday in Hilo Circuit Court, which suggests he was able to post bail.
Judge Henry Nakamoto referred Ferreyro to the Office of the Public Defender and ordered him to return to court for arraignment and plea at 8 a.m. Oct. 3.
The judge did not order the indictment unsealed during the brief hearing, so the Tribune-Herald has not had an opportunity to examine specific allegations against Ferreyro.
