Terry Panis

Terry Eleuterio Panis, 73, of Hilo, formerly of Pepeekeo, died Aug. 27, 2018, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Pepeekeo, he was retired from HELCO, a former disc jockey known as “Teddy Bear,” U.S. Navy veteran and member of Honomu Good Shepherd Mission and Pepeekeo Community Association.

Friends may call at noon Sept. 17 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2 for a graveside urn committal service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by brothers, Richard Panis of Hilo, Clifford Panis of Oregon; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Matsue Maeda

Matsue Matsuoka Maeda, 97, of Kohala, died Aug. 28, 2018, at the Kohala Hospital. Born in Kohala, she was retired from the Kohala Hospital, and she was a member of the Kohala Hongwanji Mission.

Private services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by son, Mike (Patti) Maeda; and three grandchildren, Terri Aiwohi, Jeff Rego and Brandon (Helen) Maeda.

Janet Nakamura

Janet Tsuruko Nakamura, 101, of Hilo, died Aug. 26, 2018, at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. She was born in Hilo, and was a retired flower packer with the former Flowers, Inc. and a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private family services held. No koden (monetary donations).

She is survived by sons, Earl K. Nakamura of Honolulu, George (Jean) Nakamura of Honolulu and Wesley Nakamura of Hilo; sister, Mitsuko Inamine of Kawaihae Village and Yoshie (George) Oshiro of Kailua, Oahu; two grandchildren, one great grandson, nieces and nephews.

Kathryn Hubers

Kathryn “Katie” “Kia” Mary Hubers, 61, of Keaau, died Aug. 21, 2018, at home. She was born in Appleton, Wis., and was a retired auditor with the Internal Revenue Service.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by her daughter, Noelani Penney of Colorado; sisters, Carol (Wayne) Lamers of Wisconsin, Debra (Peter) Paradis of California and Liza (Jim) Bryan of Washington State; brother, Bob (Sharon) Hubers of Kentucky; several nieces, a nephew and special friends, Aileen Kiernan, Alex Grantz and Kathy Hart.

Geraldine Harrison

Geraldine (Geri) Christensen Harrison, 94, of Laupahoehoe, died on Aug. 22, 2018, at home. Born April 27, 1924, in Central, Arizona, she was a former teacher at Edison Elementary School, former member of the Utah Symphony Guild, The Daughter of Utah Pioneers, former President of the Woman’s Auxiliary to Utah Optometric Association, and PTA president.

Internment will be at a date to be announced at the Taylor Arizona Cemetery.

She is survived by children, Naomi Hatch of Taylor of Arizona, Dorothy Evelyn Harrison of Phoenix, Arizona, John (Ann) Harrison of Rose, Oklahoma and V. Chris (Theresa) Harrison of Laupahoehoe, Hawaii; sisters Betty Cook, Carol Shupe, Rose Shumway and Joy Jones; brothers Gary Christensen and Jim Christensen; 19 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren.
