KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 22 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Sept. 9 and Sunday. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident and two were younger than age 21.
KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 22 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Sept. 9 and Sunday. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident and two were younger than age 21.
During the seven-day period, Kona officers arrested eight motorists while South Hilo officers arrested seven and Puna officers five, according to data released by the Hawaii Police Department. In addition, officers in Hamakua and North Kohala arrested one motorist in each district.
So far this year, there have been 783 DUI arrests compared with 791 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through Monday, there have been 21 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 26 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
