Police arrest 26 for suspected DUI

KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 26 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Aug. 27 and Sunday. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.

Kona officers arrested 11 motorists followed by South Hilo officers with six and Puna officers with five, according to data released by the Hawaii Police Department. In addition, officers in South Kohala arrested three motorists while Ka‘u officers arrested one driver.

So far this year, there have been 761 DUI arrests compared with 757 during the same period last year, according to police.

Through Wednesday, there have been 21 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 26 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
