KAILUA-KONA — Three people were arrested during a sweep of Hilo parks Wednesday night, officials confirmed Thursday.
Hawaii Island police and officers with Department of Land and Natural Resources conducted a nighttime enforcement project in parks along Kalanianaole Street and Banyan Drive.
Michiko Kaleiwahea, 41, with no permanent address, was arrested for third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, drug paraphernalia and violating park hours. Her bail was set at $2,050. She was also charged for an outstanding warrant, according to a press release from Hawaii police.
Christopher Dennis-Royston, 26, of Hilo, was arrested for contempt of court. Bail was set at $250.
Kineo Englio, 18, of Hilo, was arrested for two outstanding warrants for contempt of court. Bail was set at $300.
Kaleiwahea, Dennis-Royston and Englio were scheduled to appear in court for their initial appearances Wednesday afternoon.
Along with the three arrests, authorities issued 20 citations for violations of park hours and for a bicycle registration violation.
Similar joint enforcement projects will continue in South Hilo district as part of an ongoing effort to enforce both county and state laws and ordinances as well as improving park experiences for the community.
Very nice to see the Big Island police reclaiming OUR parks from the drug dealers.
