KAILUA-KONA — Three Hawaii Fire Department engine companies responded to an occupied, single story, single family dwelling, structure fire in the Hawaiian Beaches Subdivision Friday evening.
The structure appeared to be occupied by squatters living in the unoccupied home.
Crews responded around 1:45 p.m. to the home fully involved with flames and heavy smoke. A neighboring home on the mauka, southeast side, was being threatened with flames and heat impingement and was sustaining some heat damage.
Fire personnel were able to contain flames to the building of origin and had it under control in 50 minutes after arrival. The blaze was fully extinguished around 2:45 p.m.
All occupants were evacuated from the structure prior to the responders’ arrival. No injuries were reported.
The occupants were reported to be squatters and the scene turned over to HPD and Fire Investigators.
