Martin Bartolome
Martin F. Bartolome, 95, of Pahoa, died June 21, 2018, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Nov. 7, 1922, in Banna Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a retired worker for the former Puna Sugar Plantation Company and a self-employed papaya farmer. He also was a member of the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again 8-9:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. celebration of Mass. He is survived by daughters, Helen (Dimas) Maulit of Pahoa, Dinah (Jerry) Battles of Keaau and Rosario Engle of Honolulu; sons, Jose (Esther) Bartolome of Seattle, Gabriel (Aurea) Bartolome of Keaau and Elvis (Cheryl) Bartolome of Pahoa; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Conrado Ombao
Mr. Conrado Villaver Ombao, 70, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 8, 2018, at his residence. Born Feb. 19, 1948, in Matanao, Philippines, he was a self-employed taxi driver and member of the Kona Visayan Club and St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Visitation will be at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona and Mass is at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Ombao of Kailua-Kona; sons, Jonas (Ferly) Ombao of Kailua-Kona, Jeric Ombao of Australia, Jareb (Kanani) Ombao of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Eloi (Rick) Bellah of Kailua-Kona; brother, Arcadio Ombao of Philippines; sisters, Florita Olazo, Nilda Caleza, Pablita (Felix) Hechanova, Thelma Papillero and Josephina (Bonjong) Guiang, all of the Philippines; six grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Michael Williams
Michael Williams, 60, of Kalapana, died Aug. 7, 2018, at home. Born on Sept. 19, 1957, in Huntington, W.V., he grew up in Akron, Ohio, after his first year of college he served for two years as a full-time missionary in the San Salvador El Salvador Mission, serving also in Honduras and Guatemala. Later, on Oahu, he learned how to become an expert auto mechanic. He also was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Pahoa Ward).
Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Pahoa Ward), 16-105 Orchidland Drive in Puna. George Baybrook
George Baybrook, 89, died July 28, 2018, in Honolulu, where he had made his home since 2015.
Born Sept. 22, 1928, in Kealakekua, he met Margie Anne Young during undergraduate studies at The Bible Institute of Los Angeles and they were married in 1951. They started their ministry in 1954 in Hilo, at Central Christian Church and lead the Greater Waimea Parish, as well as other churches in Waimea, Kauai. He led Kalahikiola Congregational Church in Kohala from 2005-2009, and his formal ministry ended in 2012.
Friends may call from 5-6 p.m. Aug. 31 at Central Union a Church in Honolulu. A celebration of life will be at 6 p.m. and reception at 7 p.m. Friends may call again at noon Sept. 2 at Kalahikiola Congregational Church in Kapaau for a 1 p.m. service, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be welcomed by the American Cancer Society and by Kalahikiola Congregational Church.
He is survived by wife, Margie; children, Rebecca “Becky” (James R. Heckenbach) Baybrook, Stephen R. Baybrook and Grace L. Takamura; two grandsons.
Jean Higa
Jean Hiroko Gokan Higa, 83, of Hilo died July 15, 2018, at the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Lihue, Kauai, she was a homemaker and a retired elementary school teacher.
Private services held.
She is survived by daughter, Alison Higa of Hilo; son, Shawn (Janette) Higa of Waipahu; brothers, Herbert Gokan of Oahu, Alan (Sue) Gokan of Oahu; sister, Helen Ota of Oahu; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley Buyuan
Shirley Geraldine Buyuan, 82, of Pahala, died Aug. 7, 2108, at Ka’u Hospital. Born on Jan. 15, 1936, in Kapapala, Ka’u, she was a retired custodian for Ka’u High School and Pahala Elementary School; she also was a member of the Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Aug. 20 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for an 11 a.m. funeral service. Casual attire and flowers and lei are welcomed. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary Crematory.
She is survived by sons, Theron (Tina Matsumoto) Buyuan of Hilo and Barry (Elena) Buyuan of Pahala; daughters, Donna (Ravel, Sr.) Kaupu and Stephanie Buyuan of Pahala; brother, Moses (Carmen) Pestano of Kaneohe; sister, Juanita (Bill) Chun of Waipahu; sister-in-law; 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
