Cheryl Lynn Balai Fonua, 62, of Kailua Kona, died June 22, 2018 at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Nov. 16, 1955, in Hilo, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughters, Jammie (Larry) Carvalho of Kailua Kona, Crystal Tavares of Hawaiian Beaches; sons, Russell Balai of Mountain View, James Strong of Honolulu, Kamuela Strong all of Laupahoehoe; brothers, Walter Balai, Jr., Wendell (Kahale) Balai, Jeffery (Puahala) Johansen all of Kaneohe, Jimmy Balai, Jessie (Riko) Balai, Jason Balai all of Pahoa; sisters, Lovey Johansen of Laupahoehoe, Julie Johansen of Kaneohe, Trudy (Darryl) Balai of Pahoa; 14 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Gorgonia Gulpan
Gorgonia C. Cosido Gulpan, 76, of Kailua Kona, died June 23, 2018, at a private care home. Born Sept. 9, 1941 in Cebu, Philippines, she was a retired certified nurse assistant.

Richard “Dick” B. Ball, 88, of Naalehu, died July 19, 2018, at Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born on April 21, 1930 in Santa Monica, California.
He was a teacher, an inventor, an entrepreneur, a manufacturer of educational materials and a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Survived by wife, Judith Guertin of Naalehu; three daughters; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Natividad Ellazar
Natividad “Naty” Dacanay Ellazar, 84, of Keaau, died July 13, 2018, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. She was born in Lupao, Nueva Ecija, the Philippines and was a retired papaya packer and grader with Tropical Hawaiian Products.
Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call 8-10 a.m. Aug. 8 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.
She is survived by her sons, Marcos (Jodi) Ellazar of Hilo, Marcial (Susan) Ellizar of Charlotte, N.C., Romulo (Maribel) Ellazar of Apple Valley, Calif. and Igmedio (Estela) Ellazar of Keaau; daughter, Emerita “Emmy” (Samson) Ellazar-Hernandez of Keaau; brother, Lopez Dacanay of the Philippines; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces &nephews.
