Kona Dolphins’ Maile Lawson was the high point finisher in the 15-16 year-old girls division at the 2018 Hawaii Age Group Long Course Championships on Oahu over the weekend. Lawson placed first in the 100-meter breast stroke (1 minute, 12:39 seconds), 200 breast (2:35:20), 200 IM (2:23:22) and 200 fly (2:22:09).
Lawson will be attending the Speedo Junior Nationals in Irvine, California July 31-Aug. 4. In a photo that ran in West Hawaii Today on Saturday, Lawson was incorrectly identified in a photo cutline as swimming with Kona Aquatics.
Ku‘ulei Patterson (15-16 girls) and Shea Tsuha (17-18 girls) also claimed first place finishes for the Kona Dolphins. Patterson led the way in the 100 freeystyle with a time of 59:86. Tsuha placed first in both the 200 breast (2:45:48) and 100 breast (1:14:58).
Both Patterson and Tsuha, along with teammate Weylin Foo, will be attending the Speedo Futures in Santa Clara, California Aug. 2-5.
Bella Shurley, X Rose, Ana Rose, Ethan Ng and Giselle Minez-Cruz were also medalist for the Kona Dolphins. Shurley, X Rose and Minez-Cruz will be attending the Age Group Western Zones with Team Hawaii Aug. 8-11.
The Kona Dolphins placed 13th in the team rankings with 113 points. Kamehameha Swim Club took first with 2,376 points. Rounding out the top three were Punahou Aquatics (1,017.5) and Hawaii Swimming Club (962).
Kona Aquatics finished seventh with 196 points. Hilo Aquatics placed 11th with 118 points and Academy Swim Club, out of Waimea, finished 15th with 110 points.
