Hurney graduated from Hawaii Preparatory Academy in May and received a partial baseball scholarship to play at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Oregon. He will head there in early September for baseball camp, with school starting Sept. 24.
Hurney plans to study in the general education curriculum and then transfer to a four-year university to receive his under-graduate degree.
The scholarships were awarded to students in recognition of their academic excellence, career goals and community involvement. The HFS Scholarship Program releases applications at the beginning of each year.
